In a message, the Chief Minister said that the proposed Mahila Bank would go a long way in realising the dream of women empowerment in the country. He also thanked Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram for inviting him for the programme. He said that Andhra Pradesh has always been in the forefront of women empowerment and has been a role model for the entire country. Stree Nidhi Bank has been set up by the state government to provide easy loans to women. Andhra Pradesh is the only state to launch a bank specifically for the women.

An amount of Rs.1500 crores has been provided as starting capital for this bank. This scheme has been envisaged to financially uplift the rural women and to protect them from the clutches of micro finance and other private money lenders. Women can get Rs.15,000 as loan which can be repaid in 24 installments. Another important initiative taken towards women empowerment which will benefit over 1.49 crore women in the state is the interest free loans programme. INN

Hyderabad, July 7: The on-going efforts by the Congress High Command to find a solution for Telangana issue is all set to hit a road-block.

According to sources, citing lack of consensus, the Congress High Command might delay the decision, which was earlier expected to be taken during Congress Core Committee meeting scheduled on July 12. “There is no change in stand by any leader. While Telangana leaders want a separate State, the leaders of Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, are against the division,” a senior Congress leader involved in the process of preparing the road-map for Telangana told this website.

PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana has collected the views of MPs and ministers while camping in the national capital since three days. However, sources say that the opinions expressed before the PCC president and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy were divided. Following lack of consensus, the Congress leadership might not announce any decision on the Telangana although the Core Committee might discuss the issue.

Another leader pointed out that the Telangana Sadhana Sabha held on May 30 in Hyderabad was aimed at preventing the exodus of leaders to Telangana Rashtra Samithi. The Congress leadership was worried that more MPs and MLAs would follow senior leader K Keshava Rao, MPs G Vivek and Manda Jagannatham to the TRS. The Telangana Sadhana Sabha meeting was perfectly planned and it coincided with the visit of AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh to Visakhapatnam. The next day, he came to Hyderabad and held discussions on the issue. This was again followed by a series of meetings and visit of senior leaders to the national capital.

Sources said that the report submitted by Digvijay Singh to Congress president Sonia Gandhi contained no specific recommendation on formation of Telangana. He only presented an overall view of the existing scenario in the State. The Congress party is now planning to drag the issue till the end of August although it might take measures to maintain the present momentum.

The MPs who came to Delhi with the resignation letters had left them with Congress President Sonia Gandhi office and said they will send them in the proper format this time if the issue is delayed.

S Rajaiah said they will continue in the party till the resignations are accepted.

The MPs softened their stand after AICC spokesperson PC Chacko said that the Party is not against Telangana and is probing all options.

To keep the pressure up the MPs said that they will send letters directly to the Speaker Meira Kumar if there is any undue delay. They arrived here with a letter of joint resignations to Congress President Sonia Gandhi..

“This time we will send the letters in the prescribed format to the Speaker,” Gutha Sukhender Reddy said adding that they come to a decision after thorough discussions and weighting pros and cons.

The seven party MPs – Manda Jagannatham, Ponnam Prabhakar, S Rajaiah, G Vivek , G Sukhender Reddy, Rajagopal Reddy and Madhu Goud Yaskhi have been vocal about the issue and have taken the stand of sending the resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi was came to the national capital on invitation from senior leaders.

However, their opinion stands divided on whether or not to give the resignation letter in wake of Chacko’s statement.

In the letter to Sonia Gandhi, the MPs said that the situation is critical in the region with continuing suicides, and it would be difficult for them to continue in the party in such circumstances.

Hyderabad, January 29 : The war of words between TRS and Congress continued for the second day after the Center has deferred the decision on Telangana.

While Government whip Jagga Reddy said that TRS president K Chandrasekhar Reddy has been agitating only to making his presence KCR said Congress has no future in the State. He alleged that KCR had once told him that smaller states could not develop fast. KCR is known for his provocative statements and adopting attitude of confrontation, he said.

TRS MLA K Tarakarama Rao on the other hand criticised congress and called it a party that has no value for democratic principles. It has been encouraging dynasty rule, he said. “We have the right to criticize anyone who is against Telangana and even Nehru had sided with Andhra people during the merger,” he said.

When we criticize Sonia, Congress leaders are raising a hue and cry but they are silent when Jagan Mohan Reddy criticizes her, he said. As the sentiment is strong, we are prepared to join hands with anyone who promises a separate state, he said. INN
