TDP leaders to meet Prez on Monday

Hyderabad, Nov 3: A delegation of Telugu Desam Party leaders comprising MPs, MLAs and other senior leaders would meet President of India Pranab Mukherjee during the latter’s visit to the city on Monday.

The TDP leaders have sought an appointment with the President to submit a memorandum on the issues concerning the State. According to sources, besides the State’s bifurcation issue which caused instability in the State, the TDP leaders would submit separate memorandum on the failure of the State Government in extending assistance to those affected with the Phailin cyclone and recent heavy rains.

No mention of T in Prez speech; MPs feeble protest

New Delhi, February 21 : Telangana Congress MPs reiterated that they will mount pressure on the high command for expediting the separate statehood issue. They said that Telangana issue is not linked to Gurkhaland.

“We are not under pressure from any quarter and we raised the slogan of Jai Telangana during the President’s address in the Central hall of Parliament. However, there are differences among the Telangana MPs with some of them keeping away from the sloganeering. There was no mention of Telangana in the speech of President Pranab Mukherjee. INN

WTC calls to preserve, promote Telugu

Tiruapti, December 27: The fourth World Telugu Conference began here with a call to pass on the rich heritage and culture to the next generation with a resolve preserve and promote the honey laced aura of Telugu language.

Inaugurating the three day conference, President Pranab Mukherjee said the three day deliberations of the Conference should be coming out with positive recommendations aimed at preserving and promoting the language while the State and Central governments should take steps to translate the suggestions in to reality in the days to come.

The Conference should give a new vision and dimension for the upkeep of the language, he said and in a mild rap on the organizers said, “Such events should be held more frequently.” He traced the history of the language, naming prominent persons their contribution and various literary movements and expressed happiness that Telugu attained Classical Language status in 2008.

Governor ESL Narasimhan dwelled upon the beauty of the language and prominent people who contributed to the enrichment of the language.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy announced that Sahitya Akademy and other will be revived while there will be a separate ministry for promotion of Telugu language and it will be put to official use.

Prominent personalities who excelled in their chosen fields were felicitated on the occasion. ANR (films), Bapu (Director), Yamini Krishna Murthy (Dance) Mukhesh Kumar (hockey) CR Rao (scientist) were among those who were honoured at the inaugural function.

The event had its share of resistance, with local MLA B Karunakar Reddy staging a protest rally against the conduct of WTC. It was only eyewash and there was no sincerity on part of the organizers was his contention.
