Two children among eight killed in road accident

Nellore, Nov 16 : Eight people, including three children, were killed and six others injured, when a Tata Sumo hit a lorry near Venkatachalam toll plaza in the wee hours of Saturday.

The accident occurred when the members of a family were returning home to Rayachoti of Kadapa after attending the famous ‘roti festival’ in Nellore. The deceased include Sameera (4), Tauqeer (6), Irfan (7), Hassan Vali (40), Shaik Darbar (27), Roshan Bi (40), Mastan Ali (35) and Shaik Qadir Vali (35). The injured have been shifted to Nellore Government Hospital in 108 Ambulance. Those undergoing treatment include Shaik Arifullah Khan (35), Shamshad Begum, Noor Ahmed (11) and Khader Basha. INN

Ex-naxal Prasadam critical after assassination bid

Nellore, July 4 : Former Maoist leader Ganti Prasada Rao alias Prasadam suffered multiple bullet injuries after he was shot by some unknown persons in Nellore Town on Thursday.

According to reports, Prasadam was attacked by three unknown assailants, near a Government Hospital. Besides firing bullets, he was also stabbed with a knife. He was immediately rushed to hospital where his condition is said to be critical.

Prasadam, a poet and convenor of the Martyrs’ Committee of Friends and Relatives, was released from jail in Odisha in 2011 along with some other Maoists when Maoists had kidnapped Malkangiri district collector. INN

Assembly session from June 10

Nellore, June 6 : Finance Minister Anam Ramnaryana Reddy said that the Assembly session will begin from June 10.

The session will be up to June 21, he told reporters after participating in a local programme and worshipping at the Irukalala Parameswari temple here on Thursday. The members will be discussing and approving the budget in this session, he said.

The governance in the State has been on track and functioning smoothly, he said. INN

Will review power tariff, says CM

Nellore, April 1 : Under pressure from the opposition and Congress leaders as well, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said that the hike in power charges will be reconsidered.

Speaking at the Indiramma Bata programme here on Monday, the Chief Minister said that the government will review the tariff suggested by ERC.

Cabinet minister K Jana Reddy and C Ramachadnraiah and senior leader JC Diwakar Reddy had expressed serious concern at the hike in power charges.

The chief minister, who is on a three-day tour to the district, had earlier laid foundation stone for the Somasila High level canal. INN

MLAs not expelled from Congress: Anam

Nellore, February 5 : Pushed on the back foot, State Government on Tuesday denied that nine MLAs were expelled from Congress for anti-party activities and blamed media for distorting the PCC President’s version.

Finance minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy today said the Party did not suspend any of the MLAs and the remarks of PCC President Botsa Satyanrayana were distorted by the media. Speaking to reporters here, he said that the government would prove its majority during the budget session of the Assembly. He said that municipal elections would be held soon and the government is considering the issue.

On Telangana, Anam said that the Chief Minister has been discussing the issue with the Delhi leaders and a decision would be taken by the High Command soon. As farmers are with Congress, the party has registered an overwhelming victory in the cooperative polls, he said.

Meanwhile, State Congress President Botsa Satyanarayana evaded a direct reply when asked if action would be taken against the nine MLAs and name them. Speaking to reporters he said, action would be taken against any MLA going against the High Command but did not give a direct reply.

Blaming the opposition for blowing the issue out of proportion, he said not to go by their version. INN
