Hyderabad, Nov 3: Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana has called for a meeting of ministers and other party leaders to discuss the issue of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

The meeting, to be held at party headquarters Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, will also be attended by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. Interesting, the PCC president has convened separate meetings with the leaders from Telangana and Seemandhra regions. While the meeting with Telangana leaders would be convened at 11 AM, Botsa and CM would meet the Seemandhra leaders at 4.30 PM.

According to sources, the meetings have been convened to discuss the strategy to be adopted during the all-party meeting being convened by the Group of Ministers (GoM) on Telangana next week. The GoM had also sought the views of all political parties on its Terms of Reference and therefore, the State Congress leaders would finalise the views to be sent to the GoM.

Sources say that the State Congress, which is already a divided house, would sent a split opinion on the bifurcation issue to satisfy the stand of leaders from the both the regions.

Hyderabad, March 15: The Kiran Kumar Reddy Government has survived the No Confidence Motion moved by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and supported by YSR Congress party.

After marathon discussions of several hours, the No Confidence Motion was defeated by 84 votes. Of 264 members present in the House, 142 voted against the motion, 58 supported it while 64 members remained neutral. After a pitch war battle of words, several rounds of discussions, allegations, counter-allegations, passing of remarks and protests, the voting took place at 1 am on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The voting process was completed in almost 40 minutes.

With the main opposition TDP and MIM not supporting the No Confidence Motion, the result was obvious. However, the TRS insisted on division that exposed the cracks in the TDP. As many as six TDP MLAs defied party whip to support the No Trust Vote. They include Kodali Nani, Praveen Kumar Reddy, Balanagi Reddy, K Vanitha and Sairaj.

Similarly, the Congress too suffered a jolt when as many as nine MLAs voted in favour of No Confidence Motion. They include Jogi Ramesh, S Krishna Ranga Rao, B Shivaprasad Reddy and Peddireddy Ramchandra Reddy.

Backed by more than required numbers, a confident Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy every allegation leveled against his government by the opposition parties. He used the occasion to list out the achievements of the government during his two-year tenure. When TRS floor leader Etela Rajender accused the Congress Government of cheating the people of Telangana and insisted on Telangana Resolution in the Assembly, the Chief Minister categorically stated that the statehood resolution would be defeated in the State Legislative Assembly. He said that the Centre was making efforts to resolve the Telangana issue.

On the other side, the TRS scored a point by highlighting the issues concerning the Telangana region. TRS leaders Etela Rajender and T Harish Rao reiterated that the sole objective of their party was to achieve statehood for the region.

After the end of discussion, Speaker Nadendla Manohar asked for headcount starting with those who are in favour of the motion. The MLAs were asked to rise and the assembly officials took the headcount by visiting their seats. Similarly, the number of MLAs against the motion was counted.

When the Speaker asked the MLAs who are neutral to rise, they were greeted by slogans of ‘Shame’ by the TRS MLAs.

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen with seven members and the lone Lok Satta Party MLA Dr Jayaprakash Narayan abstained from the voting.

Although Kiran Kumar Reddy has survived the No Confidence Motion for the second time, the statistics clearly revealed the erosion of Congress base in the Assembly in the last 15 months. During the first No Confidence Motion moved by the TDP on December 2011, the Kiran Kumar Reddy enjoyed the support of 160 members as against 122 MLAs. However, this time the number has come down to 142. By voting in favour of No Confidence Motion, nine Congress MLAs have brought the Congress Government into minority as it falls short of six MLAs to maintain the magic figure of 148 in 294-member House.

Addressing the media after the No Confidence Motion, the TRS leaders said that Kiran Kumar Reddy has lost the moral right to continue in power as his government was in minority.

Hyderabad, March 5 : YSR Congress has said that the Kiran Kumar Reddy government should own up the responsibility for the consequences arising out of the unprecedented power cuts which are affecting agriculture, industrial and many other sectors.

“The inefficiency and lack of governance is glaring as the government could not foresee the yawning gap between the supply and demand of power consumption but it has been proactive in increasing the tariff to collect over Rs 34,000 crores,” party official spokesperson Gattu Ramachandra Rao told reporters here on Tuesday.

No effort was put in by the government to meet the deficit of 100 Million Units (MU) per day in summer as the priorities of the Kiran Kumar Reddy government lie elsewhere, he said.

The acute power cuts have affected crops in an extent of over 25 lakh acres, more so in upland areas. Mostly small and medium scale farmers are being pushed into the lurch as they are sandwiched between high power tariff and erratic power supply.

Industrial sectors is also bearing the brunt with the government asking the units to take a 12 day holiday while the power cuts are resulting in a 15 day holiday. Nearly 1.80 lakh industrial units have been shut down and over 20 lakh workers are rendered jobless, he said.

More units will be downing their shutters due to lack of power and many more workers will be rendered jobless. Being exams time, students are also badly hit due to power cuts.

“The state was forewarned by the officials about the impending power shortage but the government did not take any action nor looked at alternative options and has pushed the state into darkness as done by the Chandrababu Naidu in his nine-year term,” he said.

YSRCP Honorary President YS Vijayamma had led the party by holding dharnas against the power cuts and hike in power charges, while the main TDP had no mention of the serious issue anywhere which shows how indifferent it is to people’s problems, he said.

YSR has promised 9 hour free power supply in the 2009 election manifesto but the Congress government has went back on the promise and is putting the consumers to several hardships, he said.

On BJP allegations against Brother Abil Kumar, he said, the BJP spokesperson is parroting TDP-prepared script without even verifying the facts. He has been leveling allegations without going into the details.

While BJP leader Sushma Swaraj told in the Parliament that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is being harassed by Congress and CBI is being used as a tool, the local leader has been talking the language of TDP. INN

Hyderabad, February 21 : Coming down heavily on the large scale misuse of official machinery in the Kadapa cooperative elections, YSR Congress has said Congress is using these polls as a testing ground for rigging the future local bodies’ elections.

“With defeat staring at the ruling party, the Government has pressed all its force into service to manipulate the election and when it was clear that YSRC is winning the DCCB Chairman post it has postponed the elections to February 28 which only shows the extent to which Congress can stoop to,” Party MLA Srikanth Reddy told reporters here on Thursday.

What we have seen in Kadapa is the height of manipulation of public opinion and democratic process. The elections were neither free nor fair in Kadapa or in the entire state.

After concluding that it cannot win the YSR Kadapaa citadel, on the first day the Congress has postponed the election on the ground of lack quorum, citing some impossible conditions, on the second day it was the kidnap of the District Cooperative Officer (DCO) and on the third day it has postponed the election in the name of law and order problem, he said.

The order was faxed to the district administration late in the night. This clearly shows that the Congress government is experimenting with its manipulative skills for future use and the ruling party has won majority of the seats though such coercion, intimidation and undemocratic methods elsewhere in the state.

The misappropriation began from enrollment itself and bringing in stay for 22 of the 77 posts and with YSRCP sympathisers winning 32 of the 54, the Congress government has been hell-bent to win the Chairman’s post and has been playing foul though it has no majority, he said.

“Perhaps the unfair practice could be its model and wants to follow the same methodology of rigging in the future polls, but it had to bite dust in the direct elections earlier and the result will be the same in future elections as well,” he said.

When a government official is kidnapped, no action was initiated and government servants are been terrorised to the point maintaining stoic silence. We demand that an inquiry should be ordered into the incident by a senior IPS officer, he said.

The governance of the State stands to be ridiculed if cannot facilitate 12 to 14 persons to vote for the DCCB Chairman post and cannot maintain law and order. The Congress Party should gracefully accept defeat as it has no numbers, instead of trying to play manipulative politics, he said.

The Kiran Kumar Reddy government should realise that there is no reason as to why farmers should vote for Congress as they are in distress. If the elections are held in a free and fair manner, we will win majority of the districts, he said.

For the State to progress, agriculturally and industrially, only YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has the will and vision and not the Congress and TDP that have pushed the State development backwards, he said. INN
