In response to the letter sent by Union Home Ministry seeking suggestions of the political parties on State’s bifurcation issue, Jagan Mohan Reddy reiterated that his party was against any move to divide the State. “We want to make it clear in no uncertain terms that our party is committed to an integrated Andhra Pradesh and will oppose any move to divide it,” he said in a letter addressed to MHA Joint Seceretary S Suresh Kumar.

“The decision of the Union Cabinet on 3rd October 2013 to bifurcate the state of Andhra Pradesh is not acceptable. It is a well known fact that 75 per cent of the state population has been agitating and is on roads opposing the move to bifurcate the state for over three months. Yet the Congress party and Union of India chose to ignore this fact and are going ahead to do this grave injustice,” the YSRCP chief said.

Jagan said that the YSRCP strong oppose the Group of Minister (GoM) as it was set up with the sole objective of facilitating the division of State. “In this light, we request you to kindly roll back the decision taken by the Union Cabinet to bifurcate the state, in the larger interest of democracy,” he said.

The decision to shift Jagan, who was on fast since five days, was taken after a team of Osmania General Hospital conducted medical tests and feared that he might slip into coma if he continues his fast. He was suffering from dehydration and fever and his blood sugar had come down. As Jagan was firm on continuing his fast, the police decided to forcibly shift him to a hospital.

The YSRCP activists had a scuffle with the police at the Lotus Pond where Jagan was observing fast in protest against Centre’s decision to bifurcate to carve out Telangnaa. However, police personnel bodily lifted Jagan and took him to a waiting ambulance.

Describing the decision as “unilateral,” Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy faxed his resignation to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar while Vijayamma had sent the resignation letter to Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar. They accused the Congress of adopting “double standards” in announcing the decision on Telangana. They also alleged that the views and feelings of all stakeholders were not taken into consideration.

It may be mentioned that 16 MLAs and Lok Sabha MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy had already resigned from their posts in protest against the decision.

Accompanied with her mother YS Vijayamma and other party leaders, Sharmila unveiled the statue of her father and late Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy to mark the occasion. It was at Ichapuram that YSR had concluded his Praja Prasthanam padayatra before 2004 elections.

Shramila started her padayatra at Idupulapaya in YSR district on October 18. She has walked for over 3,112 kms in 230 days spanning 116 constituencies. She toured as many as 14 districts including Kadapa, Anantapur, Kurnool, Mahbubnagar, Rangareddy, Nalgonda, Khammam, East Godavari, West Godavari and Vizianganaram.

Addressing a big gathering of people, mostly women, who swarmed her Rachchabanda programme at Chintalapudi of West Godavari district on Tuesday, she assured them that YSRCP government, when formed with Jagan Mohan Reddy as CM, would revive all the welfare schemes once successfully implemented by Dr YSR.

“While the women will get interest-free loans, widows and differently abled people will receive their pensions regularly. Students of poor families studying in school, intermediate and degree will get Rs.500, Rs.700 and Rs.1000 each every month respectively for pursuing their academic careers after YSRCP Government is formed,” Sharmila assured them after listening to their woes.

All the villages in the state will also be free of belt shops, she said, charging the Government with imposing an extra burden Rs.30,000 Cr on people through hiking the power charges alone in the last three years. Lambasting the Government for the neglect of the welfare of the people, Sharmila said Kiran Kumar Reddy Government has diluted the fee reimbursement scheme, bus pass subsidies of the poor students, housing and several other schemes successfully implemented by YSR. “Is it the welfare that you are talking about?’ she heckled at Kiran Kumar Reddy.

She said while farmers got free power for 7 to 9 hours a day during the YSR times, now the famers are not getting free power even for 3 hour a day. “Kiran is simply following the Naidu regime’s policies. Besides limiting the interest-free loan scheme to a useless propaganda, the Government has also subjected the students with an additional Rs.300 Cr by hiking their bus charges,” she said.

The Government policies have been driving people, especially farmers, to commit suicides as in times of Naidu. “You should teach a fitting lesson to both TDP and Congress in the next elections to usher in the Rajanna Rajyam,” she told the gathering. INN

Despite strong objections from the YSRCP members, in an effort to divert public attention and escape criticism over its unwillingness to support the no-trust motion, Motkupally umpteen times tried to abuse YSR and YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy making allegations against them and inviting the ire of the party MLAs.

Instead of attacking the anti-people policies of the Government, the TDP member pointedly chose to attack YSR and Jagan Mohan Reddy. The unabated personal attack on YSR and Jagan Mohan Reddy angered YSRCP honourary president Smt. Vijayamma.

“Is it justified on your part to speak ill about YSR who is not in the house? Is it justified for you to pass judgments on Jagan Mohan Reddy? Which court said that he is a culprit?” asked Vijayamma objecting to Motkupally’s remarks.

She also asked TDP to disclose why Chandrababu Naidu has decided not to support the no-trust motion. “I never made any personal comments against Chandrababu Naidu. If I wanted to make personal comments, there are many. Shall I talk about his dark agreements with Union Minister Chidambaram or his party’s support to the FDI bill?” she questioned.

Earlier, YSRCLP deputy leader Sobha Nagi Reddy said they have announced support to the no-confidence motion introduced by TRS as it was aimed at exposing the failures of the Government.

“We have already said we will support no-confidence motion introduced by any political party in the interests of the people. Going by our earlier word, we supported the TRS sponsored motion,” she said explaining the reasons for supporting the no-confidence motion. INN

Former MLA K Mohan Rao of TDP and the party district incharge Venkataramana accompanied him and will be joining YSRCP.

Later speaking to reporters, Sairaj said that there has been a void of leadership in the district after the death of Yerran Naidu and lot of infighting is there in the district. “I am highly influenced by YSR schemes and hope that only YS Jagan Mohan Reddy can implement those schemes,” he said adding that he will be with Jagan irrespective of any official position.

“We discussed about the problems in our district,” he said and turned down the allegations that they are being given a package deal to join the party.

Youth is the future and YSRCP is represented by a youthful leader who is attracting leaders from all sections, he said.

A TDP MLC, Boddu Bhaskar Rao, from East Godavari had come to see Jagan and he was expelled from the party. INN
