Kanna admits lapses in compensation for cyclone-hit farmers

Eluru, Nov 24 : Agriculture minister Kanna Lakshminarayana on Sunday admitted of lapses in distribution of compensation farmers who were by cyclones and heavy rains.

Speaking to media persons at Palakollu of West Godavari district here, Kanna said that several loopholes were identified in payment of compensation of horticulture farmers who were hit by cyclones. However, he said that immediate steps have been taken to plug the loopholes and help the affected farmers. He also announced that the State Government would increase the compensation to the cyclone-hit farmers.

Besides hastening the process of payment of input subsidy to the farmers hit by Neelam cyclone, immediate measures will be taken to provide assistance to the farmers hit by recent Helen cyclone. He also announced that the salt farmers would also be paid compensation. He said that process of enumeration of losses was still and a decision on payment of compensation would be taken after Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy visit the affected areas in a day or two. Bhadrachalam will be part of Seemandhra: Kavuri

Eluru, Nov 17 : Union Minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao on Sunday stated that Bhadrachalam would be part of Seemandhra region if the division of Andhra Pradesh becomes inevitable.

Speaking to media persons after participating in the Rachabanda programme at Polavaram of West Godavari district here, Kavuri expressed confidence that the State would remain divided. However, in case of division, Bhadrachalam division would be made part of Seemandhra region. Earlier, Kavuri faced the ire of Samiakhyandhra activits who tried to attack his convoy during the Rachabanda programme. However, police swung into action and took some activists into custody.

Kavuri said that the ministers from Seemandhra region would present their views before the Group of Ministers (GoM) on November 18 and would strongly oppose the division of State. Further, he said that efforts would be made to get National Project status for Polavaram project. INN

Ex-minister Vidyadhar Rao dies of heart attack

Eluru, July 20 : Former minister Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao died on Saturday due to cardiac arrest.

According to reporters, Vidyadhara Rao sufferred a massive heart attack and collapsed while he was boarding a car to go to Thoorpu Edavalli village to campaign for his daughter Anitha who is contesting for Sarpanch post from East Yedavapalli. His body was later shifted to his native place Kamavarapu Kotal mandal for funeral.

Vidyadhara Rao began his career in 1983 and represented Chintalapudi constituency of West Godavari district five times. He was a minister in the cabinets of both NT Rama Rao and N Chandrababu Naidu. Due to his close association with Chiranjeevi, he moved to Praja Rajyam Party after it was launched. After Chiranjeevi merged PRP with the Congress party, he was made the official spokesperson.
