Hyderabad, Jan 21 (INN): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met with David Cheesewright, President & CEO, Walmart International on Wednesday and discussed on areas of collaboration with the retail giant.
The five areas of collaboration that have been agreed upon between Walmart and Government of Andhra Pradesh are: Technology – Technology and CSR will be linked; Retail – Walmart is planning to open retail stores in Andhra Pradesh while creating opportunities for Walmart to promote and purchase ‘Made in Andhra’ products; Outsourcing of agricultural and horticulture products for exports – 20 agricultural and horticultural products have been identified, especially organically grown will be sourced from the farmers and exported to international markets. Some of the products identified for sourcing are cashew, peanuts, rice, coconut, maize, pulses, fruits, marine products, Banana, Mango, Citrus, Egg, Dairy, Coffee, Papaya, Potato; Social projects – Products manufactured by the DWCRA women groups and at least 100 products will be identified and promoted by Walmart and small farmer communities – Will source agri produce from local farmers, replicating this model as it has been doing in several countries.
Cheesewright confirmed that Walmart India CEO will meet the Chief Minister soon to pursue the collaborations and that he would visit Andhra Pradesh in April this year.
