CM reviews relief works, water levels in reservoirs

Hyderabad, Aug 7 : Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday reviewed the flood situation and water levels in various Reservoirs in the State with the officials at him Camp Office.

The Chief Minister expressed happiness that all reservoirs including Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar are at Full Reservoir Levels and the agricultural operations are in full swing. The Chief Minister directed the officials to closely monitor the Reservoir levels and see that water is released to the canals for cultivation by regulating at the field level.

The Officials informed that all Reservoirs – Tungabhadra, Jurala, Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar, Sriram Sagar, Lower Maneru dam, Velugodu Balancing Reservior, Singur, Yeleru are now at Full Reservoir Level capacity except Somasila and Kandaleru of Penna basin, which are also expecting to be full soon. The Officials informed that Srisailam is 884 ft and the FRL is 884 (215 TMC), Nagarjuna Sagar is 586 ft and the FRL is 590 (312 TMC)

Godavari surplus waters outflowed into sea from 1-6-2013 is 3182 TMC till date and last year surplus water let into sea was (1-6-12 to 31-5-13) 2969 TMC. The Chief Minister has also asked the officials to take all efforts to extend relief to the flood victims in Khammam, East and West Godavari districts and the officials informed that the water levels are receding slowly at Bhadrachalam and Dowleswaram.

Meanwhile Disaster Management officials informed that low pressure area over East Madhya Pradesh and adjoining area persists. The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to midtropospheric levels. The axis of monsoon trough passes through Bikaner, Jaipur, Gwalior, centre of low pressure area, Ambikapur, Balasore and thence south-eastwards to southeast Bay of Bengal. The off shore trough from Karnataka coast to Kerala coast persists. The western disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation over Jammu & Kashmir and neighbourhood in midtropospheric levels is moving away eastwards.

Average rainfall recorded on Wednesday is 3.7 mm as against the rainfall 10.3 mm on Tuesday. The crust gates six of Nagarjuna sagar are opened at around 6 am today to release surplus flood. As on now, the water level reached to 587 ft against the full tank level against the FTL 590 feet. The inflow is 3, 00,000 cusecs and out flow is one lakh. INN
