Sun, 24 Feb 2013 13:35:38 +0000 Hyderabad, February 24 : Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s visit to the State capital has more than what it meets the eye.

It is the bounded duty of any person holding highest administrative office to visit the site of such a ghastly incident, this cannot be discounted.

Having come, he visited the blast and consoled injured people undergoing treatment at two hospitals besides giving a word of assurance of all help and left for Delhi.

Before leaving for Delhi, it was told that the Governor, ESL Narasimhan, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and DGP Dinesh Reddy have briefed him of the investigation process. The message was clear.

There is no conflict between the Centre and State.

Opposition parties have slammed the blame game with union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde telling that we have alerted the state two days in advance and the state saying that it was a general alert.

When the bomb blast echoed in Parliament with higher decibels the firefighting exercise had been taken up. The Centre said it had sent the same alert to some other cities as well and the city police Commissioner Anurag Sharma doled out statistics of the security drill they have undertaken.

When the issue of faulty cc TV cameras was focused with great prominence, police top brass tried to cover up saying that they were not for surveillance but were for the purpose of recording traffic violations. This has irked people more than the non working of cc TVs.

In a knee jerk reaction, the State suddenly woke up and started fixing cameras at vulnerable points.

The Prime Minister’s visit becomes more important as he has to face the Parliament tomorrow and uneasy questions are likely to come from the opposition benches, more so from BJP in both the houses.

Sushil Kumar Shinde had given a statement and BJP had an upper hand as the statement was bland and bore no details that could satisfy the annoyed Opposition.

Now the UPA has some defence in its armoury with the Prime Minister visiting the bomb blast site. He did not speak to the press is different thing as the issue is likely to dominate major part of the proceedings on Monday.

The Prime Minister’s visit also comes as a blessing in disguise for the Congress government in the state as this is first time Dr Singh has come during the past three years or more.

A couple of times, the Prime Minister’s tour programme was postponed for reasons known to Congress circles. The state has been constantly under duress and the situation was combative even within the ruling party with issues ranging from Telangana to the recent strained relations with MIM.

Even senior leader V Hanumanth Rao and state minister D Nagender were not allowed to meet the Prime Minister. An open forum would have deviated the issue and tranquility of the party and visit as well.

But Kiran Kumar Reddy government need not take the blame of the Prime Minister not visiting the Congress-ruled state and the UPA will have some cushion in the parliament while discussing the terror issue. INN
