Hyderabad is the Muslim dominant seat where the community constitutes about 70% of the total voters. It comprises of Malakpet, Karwan, Goshamahal, Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura and Bahadurpura. Six out of seven Assembly segments were won by the MIM candidates while one seat Goshamahal was won by M Mukesh Goud of Congress.

The sitting MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, was studying law in London in 1994 when he was summoned by his father and Hyderabad MP Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi to contest from the Charminar seat.

The MIM was in trouble due to the split caused by the party MLA Amanullah Khan who later floated Majlis Bachao Tehreek. Asaduddin Owaisi was the lone MIM candidate who got elected to the assembly in 1994. But soon he took control of the party and got re-elected to the assembly in 1999, besides ensuring party’s victory on three other seats.

Due to ill-health and old age, Salahuddin Owaisi retired from electoral politics in 2004 and Asaduddin got elected from the Hyderabad seat. He retained the seat in 2009 elections and this time too he is in the fray and is the strongest contender.

As against 13,93,242 electors in 2009 elections, there are  16,61,128 voters in 2014 polls. The increase of 267,886 voters including 43,386 electors aged between 18-19 years is not likely to have an impact on the results. While there were 23 contestants in 2009, there are 15 candidates this time including four independents. The prominent candidates include Asaduddin Owaisi of All Indian Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, S Krishna Reddy of Indian National Congress and Dr  Bhagavanth Rao of Bharatiya Janata Party.

The other candidates include Rashid Shareef of Telangana Rashtra Samithi, S Khaja Moinuddin of All India Azad Congress Party, Jaya Vindhyala of Socialist Party (India), Binghi Rajashekar Pyramid Party of India, Boddu Sainath Reddy of YSRCP, N Mahender Singh of Nava Bharat National Party, Lubna Sarwath of Aam Admi Party, Syed Mustafa Mahmood          of Majlis Bachavo Tahreek and independent candidates Md Osman, Shaik Moin, Syed Abdul Gaffer and M.A. Habeeb.

Unlike 2009 elections, when Siasat Editor Zahid Ali Khan gave a tough contest to Asaduddin Owaisi, the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat is not likely to witness any keen contest this time. While Asad Owaisi is confident of a comfortable victory with a huge margin, his main rival Bhagavanth Rao of BJP feels that he could win the seat on the plank of development.

In Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat, Goshamahal has the largest number of 266,641 voters followed by Yakutpura – 257231; Karwan – 255,442; Chandrayangutta – 241,882; Malakpet – 235,448; Bahadurpura – 227,911 and Charminar – 176,573.

Urdu should be first language of Telangana: Owaisi http://innlivenews.in/2013/11/12/urdu-should-be-first-language-of-telangana-owaisi/ http://innlivenews.in/2013/11/12/urdu-should-be-first-language-of-telangana-owaisi/#comments Tue, 12 Nov 2013 08:55:25 +0000 http://innlivenews.in/?p=25816

New Delhi, Nov 12: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday reiterated that his party was against the division of Andhra Pradesh. However, in case of division, he demanded that Urdu be made the first language of Telangana State along with Telugu.

Talking to reporters after meeting the Group of Ministers (GoM) here, Asaduddin Owaisi said that he reiterated what he had stated in earlier reports. “I have given more explanation on the realities which are going to arise in case the State is bifurcated and the challenges to come to secularism. These are the broad things that we talked about,” he said.

“When two States based on Telugu are coming into existence, then what about Urdu? Why can’t Urdu be the first language of Telangana? When Telangana Bill is brought, then it should be mentioned that Urdu will be the first language along with Telugu in Telangana,” the MIM president said. Speaking about Rayala-Telangana he said that he requested the GoM to add Anantapur and Kurnool in Telangana. However, he said he had no issues if the Centre decides to include whole of Rayalaseema in Telangana State.

The MIM leader also demanded that there should be no change in the status of Hyderabad and strongly opposed the Union Territory status for the State capital. Further, he said that the law and order issue should be with the Telangana Government and not with the Centre. There should separate High Courts for both the States. He also sought special measures for the protection of lives and properties of Seemandhra people living in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana region. He said the Seemandhra people need not fear anyone or anything in case of bifurcation.

In his 18-page note given to the GoM, Asaduddin Owaisi demanded that the four reservation in jobs and education for Muslims should continue in both the States and the welfare schemes for Muslims, Christians and other minorities should be continued without any hindrance.

He also condemned the Congress leaders for adopting a confusing and strange stand on a crucial issue like Telangana.

Hyderabad should be unconditional capital of Telangana: MIM http://innlivenews.in/2013/11/06/hyderabad-should-be-unconditional-capital-of-telangana-mim/ http://innlivenews.in/2013/11/06/hyderabad-should-be-unconditional-capital-of-telangana-mim/#comments Wed, 06 Nov 2013 09:32:06 +0000 http://innlivenews.in/?p=25650

Hyderabad, Nov 6: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen President Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday warned the Centre against any change in the status of Hyderabad.

Addressing a press conference at MIM Headquarters Darulsalaam here, Asaduddin Owaisi said that the Hyderabad should be the capital after formation of Telangana State, without any conditions. Strongly opposition the proposal to make Hyderabad a Union Territory, he said that such a move would be miscarriage of justice. Further, he also opposed the possibilities of Centre handling the law and order issue in Hyderabad. Demanding that the Telangana Government be given control over Hyderabad, he said that any deviation would make the City Police Commissioner more powerful than the Chief Minister of Telangana.

Asaduddin Owaisi said that the MIM has made these submissions before the Group of Ministers (GoM) on Telangana. He also opposed the proposal of Hyderabad as the join capital of both the States. Instead, one mandal (Khairtabad) of Hyderabad can be made the common working area for both the States. He said unlike Chandigarh, Hyderabad could not serve as the common capital due to geographical limitations. He also reiterated the demand for Rayala-Telangana by including Anantapur and Kurnool in Telangana State. This would also resolve the possible disputes over sharing of water. However, he said that the possibility of Rayala-Telangana is very remote.

The MIM President feared that the division of State would hurt the interest of Muslims in the State. He said that Sangh Parival and other communal forces would gain strength after the bifurcation of State. He said that his party was concerned about the Muslims, Dalits and other weaker sections in both the regions. He demanded that reservation and other benefits should continue after the bifurcation and Urdu language be made the first official language along with Telugu in Telangana State.

Asaduddin Owaisi also demanded that steps should be taken to provide protection to the people of Seemandhra living in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana region.

MIM MLC Syed Aminul Hasan Jaffri was also present in the press conference.

Akbar Owaisi to expand MIM across India http://innlivenews.in/2013/08/18/akbar-owaisi-to-expand-mim-across-india/ http://innlivenews.in/2013/08/18/akbar-owaisi-to-expand-mim-across-india/#comments Sun, 18 Aug 2013 00:37:48 +0000 http://innlivenews.in/?p=23055

Hyderabad, August 17: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi announced that all efforts would be made to expand the MIM across India.

Delivering the first speech in a public meeting after a gap of nearly eight months, Akbar Owaisi told thousands of people who gathered at Khilwat Grounds on Saturday night that the MIM would expand its base to Maharashtra, Karnataka, Bihar, Gujarat and other parts of the country. Stating that every community has a representative party in India, he said there is not a single national party that represents over 25 crore Muslims in the country. He said extensive tours would be made to different parts of the country to form a strong political platform of Muslims and backward communities.

Akbar Owaisi made it clear that the MIM was not against any religion. However, it was opposed to the Sangh Parivar and other communal outfits. Ridiculing those who used to refer the MIM as a small party, he said that the MIM is now being counted as a representative organisation of Indian Muslims across the globe. He expressed concern over the on-going turmoil in Egypt, Syria and other countries in the Middle-East and said that Muslims should understand the conspiracies being hatched to divide them.

The MIM leader cautioned the Muslims of Hyderabad against the conspiracies of divisive forces and said they should restrain from fighting amongst themselves on sectarian or other basis. He said all mosques should be kept clean from all differences and they should be named after Khulfa-e-Rashideen, Ahle-Bait Athaar, Sahaba-e-Ikraam and wherever possible, the mosques should be named as Babri Masjid to send out a message that if you demolish one mosque, then we will construct hundred others.

Akbar Owaisi recalled the services of late Salar-e-Millat Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi for the Muslim community. He said that Salar-e-Millat was a selfless politician whose only goal in life was to ensure socio-economic and political empowerment of Muslims. He said thousand of students have passed out from the institutions formed by Salar-e-Millat.

Speaking about the cases registered against him in Adilabad, Nizamabad and other places for allegedly making hate speeches, Akbar Owaisi said that he has total faith in judiciary and would come out clean of all charges leveled against him.

Moulana Mufti Khaleel Ahmed of Jamia Nizamia, Moulana Masood Hussain Mujtahedi, MLAs Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri, Virasat Rasool Khan, Mohammad Maozam Khan, former Mayor Mir Zulfeqar Ali, former Deputy Mayor Jaffer Hussain Meraj and others also spoke.

Hyderabad, August 17: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday asked the people from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions not to fear anyone and comfortably live in Hyderabad.

Addressing a massive public meeting at Khilwat Grounds here on Saturday night, Asaduddin Owaisi said that the city of Hyderabad belongs to everyone and they should live here peacefully, without any fear. “If you consumed Gandipet water, then you are a Hyderabadi. Even if you have eaten Haleem, then you are a Hyderabadi,” he said to counter the word settlers which is commonly being used by a few parties to refer to people from Seemandhra region.

“Write MIM on your wall, if anyone harasses you,” Asaduddin Owaisi said to assure that his party would provide complete protection to people from different regions and other States.

Stating that the MIM opposed to giving Union Territory status to Hyderabad, the MIM chief said that his party was also against making Hyderabad the permanent capital of two States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He said that Hyderabad should remain the capital of Telangana and there should be no change in its status. Describing union minister K Chiranjeevi as an amateur in politics, he slammed him for making the suggestion to Centre.

The MIM chief also asked the party cadre to gear up for the next polls and ensure that percentage of polling increases this time. He expressed confidence that besides winning the existing seven Assembly and one Parliament seat, the MIM would focus its attention on Rajendranagar, Jubilee Hills, Adoni, and other seats in the State.

Without taking the name of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in his speech, he said that while the Congress Government was trying to suppress the activities, it failed to take action against Modi who referred to Muslims as puppies. He also advised Telugu Desam Party to stay away from the trap laid by Modi who praised NTR while addressing a public meeting in Hyderabad last week.

MIM leaders Akbaruddin Owaisi and other legislators also addressed the public meeting which was organised to mark the fifth death anniversary of late Salar-e-Millat Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi.

Hyderabad, August 12: Stating that elections for Parliament and Assembly may be held in the next six to seven months, MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi asked his party cadre to gear up to register a massive victory.

Addressing the partymen during the Eid-Milaap function at MIM headquarters Darulsalam on Sunday night, Asauddin Owaisi said that the MIM would certainly win the elections.
