Hyderabad, Aug 3 (INN): Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday appealed to the Governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to work in coordination to ensure overall development of both Telugu speaking States.

Addressing a press conference at his residence here, Venkaiah Naidu said that he had held detailed discussions with Nara Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrasekhar Rao and advised them to devise mechanism to ensure proper utilisation of Central funds in their respective States. YSRCP demands white paper on loan waiver Thu, 31 Jul 2014 15:28:28 +0000

Hyderabad, July, 31 (INN): Demanding a white paper on the total loan waiver, YSR Congress has said the TDP government is pushing the farmers in to indebtedness by going back on its poll promises and changing its stance frequently without addressing the core issue nor revealing how and when the waiver will be implemented.

“We demand a white paper from the Chandrababu Naidu government with facts and figures and a categorical assurance as to when and how the loans would be waived as the cabinet colleagues of the Chief Minister have been giving widely varying statements on the issue and are driving farmers into distress and indebtedness,” party leader K Pardhasarathi told reporters here on Thursday.

The Agriculture Minister has just stopped short of saying a big no to the total waiver of loans and the TDP government has been dilly-dallying on the issue from day one though it was the first file Chandrababu Naidu has signed after assuming office.

TDP government has set up committees only to bid time and has bluffed to the people that RBI will reschedule the loans and when a top official of the apex Bank has said it is not possible the TDP leaders took shelter under some other pretext but the promise was not honored.

Bankers have bluntly said that they will not give fresh loans unless the old dues are cleared and if they become defaulters the rate of interest would be 12 %. These circumstances created by TDP government have been pushing farmers into a debt trap and driving them to the fold of unscrupulous money lenders.

The latest remark of a TDP Minister asking the farmers to clear the loans first and the government will ensure fresh loans and stating that only one person in a family is eligible for loan waiver shows that State Government has scant respect for farmers.

As more than 70 % of farmers are dependent on bank loans, the government should categorically state as to when it will implement the loan waiver scheme and how, he said.

During the previous term of TDP, farmers were neck deep in debts and YSR has saved them from distress and the quantum of bank loans to farmers from banks increased from Rs 3,000 crores to Rs 10,000 crores after YSR took over and the figure now stands around Rs 30,000 crores, he said adding that the government should release a white paper on the loan waiver immediately.

He also took strong objection to the TDP government’s decision to charge Rs 200 per member from women groups to build the state capital and called it as absurd.

On the TRS government issuing the GO 36 raising the nativity issue, he said “the decision is unfortunate and it is a pity that not a single member of the AP government held talks with either Telangana Chief Minister or the concerned minister.”

Shabbir Ali Slams Naidu, KCR over EAMCET Counseling Tangle Thu, 31 Jul 2014 09:39:12 +0000

Hyderabad, July 31 (INN): Deputy CLP Leader in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammad Ali Shabbir on Thursday advised the Governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to sit, discuss and resolve the controversy over EAMCET Counseling.

Addressing a press conference at the Congress Legislature Party Office here, Shabbir Ali condemned the Chief Ministers – Nara Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrasekhar Rao for allowing their egos to overshadow the interest of lakhs of Telugu students. He said that the adamant attitude of both the Chief Ministers was hurting the students who are on the verge of losing their academic career. Their attitude is worse than two rival countries indulged in cold war. “When India can hold negotiations with Pakistan and China despite having serious disputes over border and other issues, whey not two Telugu speaking States sit on negotiation table?” he asked.

Citing examples, he said Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was invited to attend the oath taking ceremony of India’s Prime Minister Narender Modi. Similarly, Indian PM held talks with his Chinese counterpart during BRICS conference. Therefore, there is no harm if the Chief Ministers of both the Telugu speaking States discuss and resolve their differences.

Shabbir Ali asked Naidu and KCR to set aside their difference and find an amicable solution of disputes relating to EAMCET counseling, power and water sharing. “Both of you (Naidu & KCR) have achieved your goals. You have become the Chief Minister. At least now, you should stop raising sentiments and discuss the development of both the Telugu speaking States,” he advised.

Shabbir Ali strongly condemned the ongoing controversy over EAMCET counseling. He said while the decision of Andhra Pradesh Government to initiate EAMCET counseling was taken in haste, the Telangana Government’s adamant attitude over the issue was highly condemnable. He said either the Chief Ministers, Education Ministers or at least officials from both the States should sit across to resolve the issue or wait till August 4 for the final verdict of Supreme Court on the issue. He criticised governments of both the States for creating confusion over the issue. He accused them of playing with the lives of lakhs of innocent students just to satisfy their egos.

He said that the Congress party would extend its support for the amicable solution of the issue.

United AP acquired highest share in total domestic tourist visits: Study Wed, 30 Jul 2014 13:48:37 +0000

Hyderabad, July 30 (INN): Emerging as the most-preferred tourist destination for domestic travelers, United Andhra Pradesh accounted for lion’s share of about 20 per cent in the total domestic tourist visits of over 103 crore across India as of 2012, noted a recent ASSOCHAM study.

Clocking compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 85 per cent, Andhra Pradesh (AP) has recorded significant surge in domestic tourist arrival in the state which crossed 20 crore mark in 2012 from a level of 11 crore in 2006, according to a study titled ‘Indian Tourism Industry: The way forward,’ conducted by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM).

However, the Erstwhile Andhra Pradesh did not figure amid top ten states with high share in foreign tourist arrival in India as the state attracted about 2.9 lakh foreign tourists as of 2012 which had increased at a rate of about 11 per cent from 2.6 lakh in 2011.

With outstanding investments worth over Rs 6,800 crore, the erstwhile AP has been one of the frontrunners in this regard as it ranked 5th with 5.7 per cent share amid 20 major states attracting total investments worth over Rs 1.2 lakh crore in hotels and tourism industry across India, highlighted the study prepared by the ASSOCHAM Economic Research Bureau (AERB).

“There is a huge scope for luring investments from the private sector in the two new States – Telangana and residual Andhra Pradesh that are endowed with abundant entrepreneurial talent, highly competent bureaucracy and forward looking political leadership,” said D.S. Rawat, National Secretary General of ASSOCHAM while releasing the findings of the chamber’s study.

“There is a need for both the state governments to provide clear land bank policies for improving the physical infrastructure in order to attract new investments in the hospitality sector in their respective states,” he added.

“They should also develop the tourism sector based on their respective core natural strengths, besides, they should also conduct tourism fair and festivals for showcasing the rich cultural heritage on a regular interval,” said Rawat. “Developing trained manpower possessing requisite soft skills is also very essential for them to emerge as India’s top tourist destinations and the same can be done by conducting short-term training programs with focused skill development catering to people engaged in hotels, travel agencies, staff at railway stations, bus stands, staff and guides at monuments.”

“There is tremendous scope to develop star-rated hotels across both the new states to offer quality experiences as second tier cities in the country hold huge potential to drive up the hotel and tourism industry,” said Rawat. “The state governments should develop tourism circuits through conjunction of sites as a package in order to offer the tourists a more complete experience.”

“Public-private partnership (PPP) framework must be adopted to build and manage tourist facilities by laying down industry standards, ethics and practices, ensuring preservation and protection of tourist attractions,” added the ASSOCHAM’s national secretary general.

“Driven by the growing middle class with rising disposable incomes and ever-evolving lifestyles, domestic tourism offers tremendous growth potential for growth and development of India’s overall tourism industry,” further noted the ASSOCHAM study. “There is a need to promote domestic tourism as it spurs job creation especially in the marginal, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), promotes entrepreneurship and accentuates demand for different categories of hotels.”

Apart from Erstwhile AP, the states of Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra figure amid top five states with highest share in domestic tourist arrival. While Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are amid top five states with highest share in attracting foreign tourist arrivals.
