Akbar Owaisi to expand MIM across India Sun, 18 Aug 2013 00:37:48 +0000

Hyderabad, August 17: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi announced that all efforts would be made to expand the MIM across India.

Delivering the first speech in a public meeting after a gap of nearly eight months, Akbar Owaisi told thousands of people who gathered at Khilwat Grounds on Saturday night that the MIM would expand its base to Maharashtra, Karnataka, Bihar, Gujarat and other parts of the country. Stating that every community has a representative party in India, he said there is not a single national party that represents over 25 crore Muslims in the country. He said extensive tours would be made to different parts of the country to form a strong political platform of Muslims and backward communities.

Akbar Owaisi made it clear that the MIM was not against any religion. However, it was opposed to the Sangh Parivar and other communal outfits. Ridiculing those who used to refer the MIM as a small party, he said that the MIM is now being counted as a representative organisation of Indian Muslims across the globe. He expressed concern over the on-going turmoil in Egypt, Syria and other countries in the Middle-East and said that Muslims should understand the conspiracies being hatched to divide them.

The MIM leader cautioned the Muslims of Hyderabad against the conspiracies of divisive forces and said they should restrain from fighting amongst themselves on sectarian or other basis. He said all mosques should be kept clean from all differences and they should be named after Khulfa-e-Rashideen, Ahle-Bait Athaar, Sahaba-e-Ikraam and wherever possible, the mosques should be named as Babri Masjid to send out a message that if you demolish one mosque, then we will construct hundred others.

Akbar Owaisi recalled the services of late Salar-e-Millat Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi for the Muslim community. He said that Salar-e-Millat was a selfless politician whose only goal in life was to ensure socio-economic and political empowerment of Muslims. He said thousand of students have passed out from the institutions formed by Salar-e-Millat.

Speaking about the cases registered against him in Adilabad, Nizamabad and other places for allegedly making hate speeches, Akbar Owaisi said that he has total faith in judiciary and would come out clean of all charges leveled against him.

Moulana Mufti Khaleel Ahmed of Jamia Nizamia, Moulana Masood Hussain Mujtahedi, MLAs Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri, Virasat Rasool Khan, Mohammad Maozam Khan, former Mayor Mir Zulfeqar Ali, former Deputy Mayor Jaffer Hussain Meraj and others also spoke.

MIM chief promises safety for Seemandhra people Sat, 17 Aug 2013 21:33:25 +0000

Hyderabad, August 17: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday asked the people from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions not to fear anyone and comfortably live in Hyderabad.

Addressing a massive public meeting at Khilwat Grounds here on Saturday night, Asaduddin Owaisi said that the city of Hyderabad belongs to everyone and they should live here peacefully, without any fear. “If you consumed Gandipet water, then you are a Hyderabadi. Even if you have eaten Haleem, then you are a Hyderabadi,” he said to counter the word settlers which is commonly being used by a few parties to refer to people from Seemandhra region.

“Write MIM on your wall, if anyone harasses you,” Asaduddin Owaisi said to assure that his party would provide complete protection to people from different regions and other States.

Stating that the MIM opposed to giving Union Territory status to Hyderabad, the MIM chief said that his party was also against making Hyderabad the permanent capital of two States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He said that Hyderabad should remain the capital of Telangana and there should be no change in its status. Describing union minister K Chiranjeevi as an amateur in politics, he slammed him for making the suggestion to Centre.

The MIM chief also asked the party cadre to gear up for the next polls and ensure that percentage of polling increases this time. He expressed confidence that besides winning the existing seven Assembly and one Parliament seat, the MIM would focus its attention on Rajendranagar, Jubilee Hills, Adoni, and other seats in the State.

Without taking the name of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in his speech, he said that while the Congress Government was trying to suppress the activities, it failed to take action against Modi who referred to Muslims as puppies. He also advised Telugu Desam Party to stay away from the trap laid by Modi who praised NTR while addressing a public meeting in Hyderabad last week.

MIM leaders Akbaruddin Owaisi and other legislators also addressed the public meeting which was organised to mark the fifth death anniversary of late Salar-e-Millat Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi.

Akbar Owaisi to contest from Hyderabad seat? Sun, 04 Aug 2013 01:37:07 +0000

Hyderabad, Aug 4: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi may not contest from Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat in 2014 elections. Instead, he is likely to field his younger brother and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi from the Hyderabad parliamentary segment.

According to sources, the MIM president is keen on capatalising the popularity Akbaruddin Owaisi has gained in the recent past. While Akbar Owaisi’s gained massive public support after the assassination bid, his popularity touched its peak when he was arrested for allegedly making hate speeches. He is now being considered the most popular MIM leader after his father Salar-e-Millat Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi.

Although Akbaruddin Owaisi has reduced his public appearances after his release from Adilabad Jail in the alleged hate speech case, ill-health and legal complications are said to be the reasons that forced him to keep a low profile for time being. However, sources say that Akbar Owaisi is preparing to contest the next Lok Sabha elections after being asked to do so by his elder brother.

Known for making strategic political moves at appropriate times, Asaduddin Owaisi is aiming to increase MIM’s strength in the next Assembly. Therefore, by fielding Akbar Owaisi from the Hyderabad seat, he plans to focus on State politics. Sources say that Asaduddin Owaisi himself may contest from Charminar seat as present MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri has reportedly desired to retire from electoral politics.

After the delimitation of seats in 2009, Hyderabad seat has become safe for the MIM. In 2009 elections, Asaduddin Owaisi won with a comfortable majority of over one lakh votes against his nearest rival Zahid Ali Khan of Telugu Desam Party. MIM’s arch rival Bharatiya Janata Party stood third by securing 93,917 votes against MIM’s 308,061 while Zahid Ali Khan secured 194,196 votes. The statistics clearly show that Akbar Owaisi could comfortably win from Hyderabad while his candidature would have an indirect impact on all the Assembly segments including those falling in Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

MIM to tap online media for election campaign Fri, 12 Apr 2013 16:01:23 +0000

Hyderabad, April 12: Known for its innovative approach to reach the masses, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen is all set to launch a massive online campaign for the next elections.

Although the party’s floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi has already launched the campaign by initiating padayatras in his Chandrayangutta constituency, the MIM is gearing up to make contact with thousands of voters through online media and Social Networking websites.

In 2009 elections, MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi won the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat by securing 3,08,061 votes against his nearest rival Zahid Ali Khan of TDP who got 1,94,196 votes. Although Asaduddin Owaisi won the election with a majority of over one lakh votes, it was considered one of the toughest elections that the party had ever faced.

This time too, the sailing will be too rough for the MIM. In 2009, the party enjoyed the full backing of ruling Congress party and the then Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Siasat Editor Zahid Ali Khan was the sole, but strong opponent that the party faced. But this time, it will have to deal with multiple opponents. While the Congress party is eyeing on Hyderabad seat by fielding a strong candidate, the TDP is gearing up to achieve what it could not in 2009. The TRS will try to encash upon MIM’s anti-Telangana stand and the BJP will leave no stone unturned in trying to demonise the MIM leadership.

Therefore, in order to counter multiple opponents, the MIM will depend on online media, especially the Social Networking Sites like Facebook and YouTube. To begin with, using its cadre in Primary Units, the party will collect information on the tentative number of FaceBook users in each constituency. The MIM already has constituency-wise FB Accounts/Pages. Now this will be extended to Municipal Division-level. The cadre will encourage the local youth to join the party’s Accounts/Pages of their concerned division through which party’s messages or programmes would be disseminated.

“What we are planning is a huge task. It will be almost impossible to track FB users, who are also our potential voters, in each constituency. However, our target is to enroll at least one member from each family on FB,” a senior MIM leader told this website.

The MIM presently has over one lakh active members on the Facebook. Considering the fact that some accounts might be fake and a few others might be having multiple accounts, the party is aiming to enroll at least one lakh genuine users for an effective campaign.

The MIM is also planning to have tie-ups with leading news websites for its campaign. However, it needs to be seen as to how a party which survives on Urdu speaking voters manages to impress the English speaking netizens. Since a majority of MIM fans are young, they are well versed and therefore, it will not be difficult for the party to attract them towards it.

Akbar Owaisi launches series of padayatras Sun, 31 Mar 2013 01:14:40 +0000

Hyderabad, March 30: After staying out of action for a while due to different cases booked against him and later due to ill-health, MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi returned among the people on Saturday.

After visiting Dargah Hazrath Barhana Shah (RA), he started his padayatra from the Riyasat Nagar Division. He toured Riyasat Nagar, Owaisi Nagar, Mubarak-ud-Daula Maqbara, Iman Ali Bagh, Akbar Owaisi Colony, Moin Bagh, Jamaal Colony and Habeeb Nagar and interacted with people about the problems being faced by them.

Besides the MIM corporators Saleem Baig, Qavi Ansari, Mumtaz Ali, Dr Yousuf Naqsbandi, Samad Bin Abdaad and Mansoor Avalqi and other party workers, hundreds of people including women and children came out of their residences to meet the MIM leader.

He concluded his padayatra in Raj Narasimha Nagar. He also inspected an under-construction high school building which is nearing completion. He received several complaints of inadequate supply of drinking water. He promised to take all steps to resolve the problems being faced by the people.
