Hyderabad, Dec 13 (INN): Citing violations of safety norms, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Tuesday sealed the famous Chandra Lok Complex in Secunderabad.
The building was sealed following an inspection by GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy and other senior officials. One person by name A. Durgaiah died due to collapse of a roof railing in Chandra Lok Complex on Monday night. The Mayor has announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs. 2 Lakh in addition to Rs.50,000/- under Apadbandu Scheme.
While on inspection, the Mayor said that the building was constructed about 40 years ago. About 150 establishments are running their business in the complex. However, he said that the owners association of the building has not taken any precautions or maintenance of the building. He said that the GHMC has sealed the building and its power supply has been disconnected.
To inspect structural stability and to recommend safety measures to taken on the old buildings a committee, comprising civil engineers from Osmania University and JNTU, will be constituted, the Mayor said. (INN)
