Mahbubnagar, Aug 13 (INN): Oppressive heat conditions prevailing in the district is taking a toll on the Pushkaralu pilgrims. This, coupled with heavy traffic on the roads leading to Pushkar Ghats is worsening the situation.
Many pilgrims have complained that the traffic police was stopping their vehicles about 2 kms away from the Pushkar Ghats and the pilgrims were forced to walk for such a long distance under scorching heat. A police constable posted at a Pushkar Ghat for Pushkaralu duty collapsed to the ground due to severe heat. He was immediately shifted to a medical camp near the pushkar ghat and was administered medical aid.
One pilgrim electrocuted
A pilgrim who was on his way to take holy dip at Pangal Pushkar ghat in Nalgonda district was electrocuted after he came in contact with a live power line near the pushkar ghat on Saturday. The identity of the victim has not been established when the last reports came in. Victim’s body was shifted to the local Area Hospital, sources informed.
Heavy traffic jam
Serpentine queues of pilgrims are being witnessed at the pushkar ghats in both the Telugu state for the Krishna fete. With an extended weekend, thousands of pilgrims are heading to take part in the pushkaralu. Hyderabad-Kurnool and Hyderabad-Vijayawada roads are witnessing massive traffic jams since morning. Elaborate security arrangements are in place and police teams are conducting vehicle checks at all entry points in the districts of Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda. (INN)
