Hyderabad, July 17 (INN): Toughening its standing against defection of its MLAs, YSR Congress on Sunday said that the party would make all out efforts to ensure that the anti-defection law is amended and the powers of acting against the defectors should be vested with the Election Commission.
Speaking at the all party meet ahead of the Monsoon Session in New Delhi, party MP Mekapati Rajamohan said that the ruling TD government in AP is resorting to defection of MLAs from the YSR Congress. He said that the present law which authorizes Assembly Speaker to act against the defectors is of no use as Speaker failed to act. He said that the Anti-Defection law should be amended and the powers to disqualify the defectors should be vested with the Election Commission. He also said that the defected law makers should be suspended from their membership from the Assembly within three months of the crossing the floor.
The YSRC MP also sought the Centre to accord Special status to AP and also extended financial aid in the capital city construction.
