Deloitte Monsoon Regatta concludes

Hyderabad, July 17: The Four Day, Deloitte Monsoon Regatta, the 8thedition of one of the largest sailing extravaganzas in India which received over 66 entries including international participation from Germany, UK, Russia, Sweden, Kuwait giving it it’s first international flavor concluded here in city today.

Chairman of Deloitte, P. R. Ramesh; Senior Leadership Team Member Harikarra, Ganesh, grand old man of Indian Sailing Ajay Balram, Sunil Lobo and Founder President of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad Suheim Sheikh graced the closing function.

Speaking on the occasion Harikarra, Senior Leadership member of Deloitte said.the association with the event and the Yacht Club gave Deloitte an opportunity to serve community through the medium of sports. He appreciated the efforts of The Yacht Club of Hyderabad.

Santosh R B bagged Overall Trophy, Mumbai Team comprised of Nadar Murugan, Kapil Dev Behl, Dheer Singhi bagged Overall Winning Team Trophy; Harshita Tomar-Best Female Entry, Chitresh bagged two trophies-Overall Winner Without Any Dicards and Overall Winner Trophy. The prizes were given away by Mr. P.R. Ramesh, Chairman of Deloitte and Mr. Harikarra, Senior Leadership Member of Deolitte.

Among other who awards include Arahanth Veerareddy as the Youngest Sailor, P. Saketh best sailor under 10years and others.

The Monsoon Regatta is a National Ranking Championship that is held in Hyderabad in the Sub Junior category every around this time. And the top sailors congregate in large numbers. The Deloitte Monsoon Regatta has grown leaps and bounds thanks to the support of the Hyderabad Marriott for the last 6 years and Deloitte India informed Suheim Sheikh.

The YCH has strong tie ups with NGOs like Project 511, Naandi Foundation , LSN Foundation, Rotary Deccan and Akaanksha and is the only event where economically challenged kids from all these foundations including some from Mumbai have been trained and will be participating in large numbers. With 30 such kids rubbing shoulders with the elite , this will be a regatta to remember.

Both the Monsoon Regatta and Monsoon Jazz welcome the season and we are happy to see the children supported by the Yacht Club grow in their sailing and educational careers” said Sharad Datta GM of Hyderabad Marriott.

“We are proud to support the twin goals of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad , to bring awareness to our polluted water bodies and serve economically challenged children thru their motto ‘Dignity Through Sports’ “ said Chairman of Deloitte India Mr.PR Ramesh in a special message.

The Deloitte Monsoon Regatta sailed the Americas Cup format for the first time in India which is Television and viewer friendly. Watching a sail race will not be a complicated exercise any longer.

The Regatta featured Fleet Racing in the Omega Class of Boats sponsored by Ford India and the Optimist Class sponsored by Telangana Tourism.

The top seeded team in the Omega Nationals were Indian Navy that featured a team helmed by Imo Lemnok with crew Gaurva Randhawa. A Multi National team with Mark Schamp of Germany and Robert Oates from the UK sailed with one Indian crew. Hyderabad was represented by Rishab Nayar, Tanish Desai and Praveen Kumar the first tow being champions in the Laser Class and have recently proved their class by winning the Laser events at Hyderabad.
