Students occupy Proddatur town’s square for steel plant

Kadapa, July 14 (INN): Nearly 10,000 students in Proddatur town of Kadapa district on Thursday today demanded establishment of the steel plant in the backward district as per the assurance given in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014.

The students marched to Town’s Sivalayam Square chanting slogans and flaunting banners inscribed “Kadapa Ukku, Seem Hakku’.

The occupy Sivalayam Square movement was organized by Steel Plant Sadhana Samiti,  a non-political outfit, launched a year ago.

The students, most of them were girls; congregated at town’s Sivalayam Square this morning at 9 am, took pledge that they would intensify their movement if a roadmap was not announced immediately by the central and state governments to set up the plant.  They hope steel plant would transform the economy of the region with more jobs and business opportunities.

Union government, at the time of passage of the Telangana bill, assured that a steel plant would be set up in Andhra Pradesh. It has been two years, there has been no credible move from any side, the students said. (INN)
