Dr. Kalam laid to rest with full State honours

Rameshwaram, July 30: Former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was laid to rest with full State honours at Peikarumbu in his hometown Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu on Thursday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah and several other leaders and dignitaries from around the world paid rich tributes to Dr. Kalam. Over 1 lakh people, from different parts of the country, witnessed the burial. The three services chief also paid their respects to their former Supreme Commander.

Dr. Kalam’s body was brought from his family mosques where Namaz-e-Janaza was performed.

The Prime Minister also met Kalam’s eldest brother 99-year-old Mohammed Muthu Meeran Lebbai Maraicker and offered his condolences.

Dr. Kalam died of cardiac arrest in Shillong on July 27.
