Hyderabad, Feb 19 (INN): The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded an all-party meeting to discuss the proposal of the Telangana Government to drain out Hussainsagar Lake.
Speaking to media persons in the Assembly premises here, BJP floor leader Dr K Laxman strongly opposed the proposal and said many localities in Musheerabad Assembly constituency, which he represents, would be affected if polluted water is drained out of Hussainsagar. He also ridiculed the State Government’s proposal to construct Vinayak Sagar near Indira Park for immersion of Ganesh idols.
Referring to the objections raised by Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL), an NGO, Laxman said that the government should take the view of experts before taking any steps like completely draining out Hussainsagar. He said at a time when the State Government is unable to provide drinking water to the citizens of twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, it is ridiculous to even imagine of refilling Hussainsagar lake with fresh water.
The BJP leader threatened of massive agitation if the State Government fails to drop its proposal.
