Wajid Hussain appointed Congress floor leader in GHMC

Hyderabad, Sept 11 (INN): Bholapur corporator Mohammed Wajid Hussain has been appointed as the Congress floor leader in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

Announcing the appointment on Thursday, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah asked the Congress corporators to intensify their fight to get better civic amenities for the citizens of GHMC. He alleged that TRS Government has stopped the process of city’s development which was initiated by the Congress. Stating that the Congress is the largest party in the GHMC, he asked all corporators to develop their divisions through their hard work.

Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president Danam Nagender advised all the corporators to stay in touch with the local residents and resolve the civic problems being faced by them.

AICC Secretary RC Khuntia said that Wajid Hussain’s nomination was approved by AICC President Sonia Gandhi and hoped that it would bring minorities closer to the Congress party. He asked the Congress corporators to apprise the people of their achievements.

Deputy CLP leader in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, former MP G Vivek, Deputy Mayor D Rajkumar and other leaders also congratulated Wajid Hussain on his appointment as the floor leader.

Speaking on the occasion, Wajid Hussain thanked the Congress High Command on his appointment and assured that he would try his best to win the next GHMC elections.

It may be mentioned that Wajid Hussain is the third corporator who has been appointed as floor leader. The first floor leader Kaleru Venkatesh had quit the Congress in December 2012 to join YSRCP. His successor Diddi Rambabu has recently joined the BJP. Wajid Hussain, who contested and won as an independent from Bholapur division after being denied party ticket in 2009 election, had rejoined the Congress party after his election. With 44 corporators, Congress is still the largest party in the 150-member GHMC.
