Illegal cellar construction may attract police cases

Hyderabad, June 6 : GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar on Friday directed the Town Planning officials to lodge police complaint whenever they find any ongoing cellar construction as dangerous.

The Commissioner held a review meeting with the officials of the Town Planning and enquired about the status report on verification of ongoing cellar constructions. He asked the officials to fill the cellars with debris, if the builders fail to respond positively. Of 130 ongoing cellar constructions in all 18 Circles of GHMC, a total of 58 cellars are found to be dangerous, he said.

Somesh Kumar said that the GHMC has identified 1538 dilapidated structures out of which most of them are in Circle Nos. 4, 8, 9 and 18. Of them, 805 building owners have taken up corrective measures and 733 are left over cases. In view of monsoon, the Commissioner directed the officials to conduct street-wise survey to identify weak structures.  INN
