Jagan promises issue-based support to Modi Government

New Delhi, May 19 : YSR Congress Party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy called on Prime Minister-in-waiting Narendra Modi here on Monday and offered issue-based support to his government.

Speaking to media persons later, Jagan, who was accompanied with nine newly-elected YSRCP MPs, said that he had discussed issues and concerns related to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. “We have highlighted the causes where we would be requiring his help. Modi ji responded positively and said that he will do everything possible,” Jagan said.

Jagan also submitted a memorandum to Modi, Jagan reminded him of the assurances given by the then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on the floor of Rajya Sabha during the debate on Telangana Bill. He also recalled that the BJP has sought some amendments in the Bill that could help the Seemandhra region. He requested Modi to extend the Special Category status to residuary state of Andhra Pradesh to at least 15 years. He said the minimum gestation in setting up anything would alone be at the least four to five years.

Further, Jagan requested Modi to implement the other promises by entrusting the job to an OSD in the PMO to follow up with various departments to ensure that the aforesaid assurances given in the Act become a reality. He also demanded instructions to be issued to the NTPC and BHEL to complete the Mannavaram project in Chittoor district, for which formally the work began in 2009 but has not moved an inch since then as there were none in the State Government to follow up with those institutions to complete the project.

Jagan also sought National Project status for Pranahita Chevella Irrigation Project of Telangana region.

“Our state has great expectations from you. We desperately need your help to rebuild the infrastructure from the scratch, at a time when the new State will find it difficult to meet both ends. We request you to provide funds liberally for building new capital, as was promised in the AP Reorganisation Act 2014,” Jagan said.

Jagan made it clear that Modi Government does not need anyone’s support as the BJP already has 282 MPs. “We were never averse to Narendra Modi ji even in the past. We will, however, give issue-based support,” he said.  INN
