Rs 5 per meal scheme to be launched in a week

Hyderabad, Feb 21 : GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar has visited the Akshaya Patra Foundation situated at Patancheru and inspected centralized Kitchen, the world’s largest mid-day meal program feeding organization who are covering more than 13 lakh underprivileged children in 20 locations in 9 states in the country.

The Commissioner said that the Akshaya Patra Foundation in Patancheru is currently feeding 90,000 underprivileged children. The visit occupies significance in light of the new scheme of subsidized hot meal @ Rs. 5/-. The GHMC has earmarked Rs. 11 crores in the budget for the year 2014-15. As per the project 50 centres will be established to provide hot and hygienic food to poor. Above 15,000 people in 50 locations would be feeding daily serving about 300 beneficiaries in each location.

The Commissioner further stated that the GHMC is in the process of identifying the agencies for implementing the scheme. The trial run for the first of its kind scheme will started in a week at selected locations.  INN
