GHMC chief reviews arrangements for Pulse Polio drive

Hyderabad, Jan 10 : GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said that, “We are at the verge of eradicating Polio from the country and this is like our last battle”. The Commissioner chaired the District Task Force meeting to conduct of National Immunization Day and Pulse polio Immunization programme on 19th January in Panwar Hall on Friday.

The Commissioner said that if we fail to eradicate Polio virus completely now, the chances recurrence Polio cases will be more and directed to concentrate more this time since there is no case reported for last few years. He said that children on transition are prone to the decease and directed to concentrate on transition points such as railway stations, bus stands and airport. He said that creating awareness and spreading the message is enough for the people living in colonies and directed to concentrate on slums, areas further beyond slums and nobody’s land, which doesn’t fall in the jurisdictions of a particular local body or administration. He further directed to cover such areas, even though there is duplication by other agency for administering Pulse Polio.

Somesh Kumar directed the Additional Commissioner (H&S) to involve the entomology staff, Additional Commissioner (UCD) to involve Self Help group Women, Slum Level Federations, Town Level Federations, community organizers and project officers in house to house visits to motivate parents to get polio drops for their kids and to assist medical staff in conducting house to house visits during 20th, 21st and 22nd January 2014 and Additional Commissioner (advertisement) to release slides of the message to all the cinema theatres.

The Commissioner further directed to involve political leaders and invite all 150 Corporators with all courtesies to administer Polio drops in one of the centres of their jurisdiction.

G. Rekha Rani, Additional Joint Collector, Hyderabad District directed Narendrudu, District Medical and Health officer to cancel two days holidays on 11th and 12th of January to medical in order to procure required material from various sources.

L. Vandan Kumar, Additional Commissioner, Health and Sanitation directed the DM&HO to coordinate with Electricity people to see that uninterrupted power supply is supplied from 16th January to 24th January to preserve/ freeze the Polio drops medicine. INN
