Traffic rules’ violators pay up over Rs 67 Cr as fine

Hyderabad, Dec 28 : The Traffic wings of Hyderabad and Cyberabad police are proving to be profit making units if one goes by the fine amount they collected from the violators of traffic rules.

As per the statistics released by both the Commissionerates during the annual press conferences, on an average, two out of every three persons living in the limits of Hyderabad and Cyberabad police has violated the traffic rules during the year 2013. The population in the GHMC areas is about 67 lakh. The Hyderabad and Cyberabad area which together enjoys almost the same limits has imposed fine on as many as 40.36 lakh vehicle users in 2013. Further, together they collected a whopping Rs 67.83 crore towards fine from these violators.

While the Hyderabad City Police collected Rs 45.08 crore from 30,87,915 violators, the Cyberabad Police collected fine amount of Rs 22.75 crore from 948,140 violators. Most of the fine amount has been collected for violation of Motors Vehicle Act by both the Commissionerates.

Further, as many as 1181 persons faced imprisonment due to drunken driving in Hyderabad City Police limits. Similarly, 1400 people were sent to jail for driving in inebriated condition in Cyberabad police limits. INN
