Centre gives nod for two EMCs in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, July 15 : For the first time in the country, the Centre has given its nod for the establishment of two Electronic Manufacturing Clusters in Hyderabad.

Addressing a press conference here, Information Technology Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah informed that the Steering Committee on Clusters (SCC) constituted by Department of Electronics and Information Technology to evaluate EMC proposals met on July 12 and cleared and awarded in-principal approval for two EMC proposals in Hyderabad.

Disclosing the details, the minister said that the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster, eCity (Fab City) would be a 602.37 acre Greenfield Cluster, estimated to cost Rs 580 crore and the grant approved by SCC is Rs 235.6 crore against Rs 263.44 crore sought in the proposal submitted to DietY, GOI. It has a SEZ area of 263 acre and non-SEZ area of 339 acre.

The Electronics Industries Association of Andhra Pradesh has show interest and has committed to invest major part of the estimated Rs 1,800 crore investment at eCity. The employment potential is 35,000 and indirect employment potential being 2.1 lakh.

Similarly, the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster at Maheshwaram will be spread across 310 acre and estimated to cost Rs 360 crore against the grant of Rs 155 crore in the proposal of Rs 142.5 crore approved by SCC. Attempts are being made to attract investments from Industry Associations like ELCINA and MAIT. An estimated investment in the EMC is going to be Rs 800 crore and employment potential direct and indirect being 14,000 and 84,000 respectively.

The minister said that apart from the above two EMCs, the third EMC proposal in Parwada, Vishakhapatnam, in an area of 100 acre at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore, is under consideration by the Centre. INN
