CM to review power supply position on Monday

Hyderabad, July 7 : Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will conduct a detailed review meeting with the officials on the energy scenario in the State.

The power utilities will submit a detailed report to the Chief Minister apart from making a power point presentation covering key issues concerning to power sector including present power supply position, status of ongoing projects, future expected demand and enhancement of generation capacity, purchase of additional power, promotion of renewable energy sources like solar and wind and consumer welfare activities.

Keeping in view the significance of strengthening of Transmission & Distribution (T&D) systems to meet the future power demand which is predicted at around 10 per cent, the Government/AP power utilities have decided to adopt special mechanism of Total Quality Management (TQM) by deploying quality control teams and arranging third party inspections in all T&D projects for evacuation of power from upcoming generating stations.

Disclosing the above details, Suresh Chanda, CMD/APTRANSCO who has conducted a series of review meetings with top officials in the context of high level meeting called by the Chief Minister on power, stressed the need to complete all the construction works strictly as per the terms & conditions of tender agreements without any deviation. TQM will be ensured by deploying expert quality control teams and carrying out third party inspections through reputed Government of India agencies like Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), Electrical Research and Development Association (ERDA) etc., for adhering to all relevant standards.

Power projects are meant for public. That’s why there is no compromise on quality of works and action will be initiated against the defaulting contractors for non-execution of works, by levying penalties. It is brought to the notice that some of the agencies are simply handing over the major works to subcontractors which is in turn delaying the projects and causing inconvenience to the public, the CMD observed, and cautioned that the sub-standard works will be viewed seriously.

Since the power demand is increasing year after year abnormally in view of changing lifestyles of the public and rising economy, CMD asserted that completion of lines and substations as per schedule is the key objective of the utility in co-terminus with the generation capacity so as to meet the future requirements of the consumers/sectors.

Suresh Chanda, along with Joint MD P. Ramesh and CMDs of DISCOMs Messrs. Syed Ali Murtaza Rizvi and Kartikeya Mishra, has apprised M. Sahoo, Principal Secretary-Energy on Saturday evening about the contents of the report to be submitted to the Chief Minister on Monday. Sahoo suggested the utilities prepare a separate action plan for providing 7 hours power supply to the agriculture sector during this kharif season without any shortfall. INN
